CONGRESSMAN BUYER SENDS REQUEST FOR FEDERAL ASSISTANCE FOR HOOSIER FARMERS

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Steve Buyer (IN-04) added his signature to a letter to the Secretary of Agriculture in support of disaster assistance to a number of Indiana counties due to significant damage and loss of crops and livestock from severe storms that produced damaging winds, tornados, and flooding.  The letter to Secretary Schafer is requesting necessary assistance from the Farm Service Agency.

“Agriculture is the cornerstone to Indiana’s economy.  The loss and damages to crops, livestock, and farm properties is very burdensome to Hoosier farmers and they need any assistance they can get to start cleaning up and rebuilding,” Buyer said.  “I fully support the necessary federal assistance to severe storms that have made their way through Indiana starting on May 30; the storms brought heavy rainfall, tornados, strong winds, and flooding causing severe damages to crops, livestock, farm equipment, and buildings.”

Congressman Buyer joined Congressmen Burton, Carson, Donnell, Ellsworth, Pence, Souder and Visclosky along with Senators Lugar and Bayh in sending the Indiana Delegation letter to the Secretary of Agriculture.
