Nomination Qualifications

Candidates, male and female, must be:

  • Citizens of the United States
  • Between 17 and 23 years old by July 1 of the year of entry
  • Unmarried, and have no legal requirement to provide support to a dependent
  • Resident of North Dakota

The four main factors examined are academic excellence, leadership ability, physical aptitude, and motivation for a military career.

Qualifications for admission include consideration of scholastic examination scores, class rank, extra curricular activities, athletics, and physical examinations. Selection is determined on an individual basis through evaluation of all phases of a candidate's life.

  • Class rank in the top 40% is usually required, but may be waived for nominees demonstrating compensating qualities.
  • Physical aptitude examination is required for all nominees.
  • Medical examination is required for all applicants.

  1. High school transcript
  2. College entrance scores (see below for minimum scores)
  3. Three letters of recommendation
  4. One-page essay on "why I want to attend a military academy"
  5. Photo
  6. DEADLINE for submitting application is November 1st

College Board of American College Testing examinations are required of all applicants. The minimum scores generally required are:
