Quantum Science for a New Century

The LANL Quantum Institute, headed by P-21's Malcolm Bosier, sponsored a Laboratory-wide
workshop on Quantum Information, Science, and Technology. The
workshop’s purpose was to present research accomplishments,
discuss future directions, and initiate new collaborations. LANL’s
research relevant to quantum entanglement and quantum coherence
was represented. Over 70 scientists from LANL, UNM, and Sandia
National Laboratory attended. The program consisted of oral and
poster sessions, which focused on recent theoretical developments,
quantum information processing with cold atoms, quantum information processing
technologies, and covered the entire range of quantum information science and technology,
from mathematics to the practical engineering issues associated with building quantum
computers.

The purpose of the Quantum Institute is to nurture basic science, to foster multi-disciplinary
research and to develop far-reaching applications of quantum information science and
technology. It leverages the multi-disciplinary research effort across 3 directorates and 7
divisions and facilitates an enhanced common understanding of the complexity and breadth of
current quantum research.
