Judy on Health CareFind out Judy's thoughts on Health Savings Accounts, Associated Health Plans, Federal medical malpractice reform, Health Information Technologies, Medicare Reform, Genetic Testing, and Embryonic Stem Cell Research.I support -- or have introduced or cosponsored -- the following measures, which will help to reduce costs and increase access to quality health care.
Health savings accounts (HSAs): expand tax deductions for health care expenses.
Associated Health Plans (AHPs): I support H.R. 525, the Small Business Fairness Act of 2005, allowing small businesses to band together to offer their employees the same competitive health care coverage that large employers offer.
Federal medical malpractice reform: would help reduce the number of nuisance lawsuits that drive up health care costs for everyone, promote costly, “defensive medicine” and reduce patients' access to medical care.
Health Information Technologies (IT): such as electronic health records, clinical decision support, computerized physician order entry systems and health information exchange networks, can reduce medical errors, improve the quality of care, and lower health costs.
Medicare Reform: enact my bill, H.R. 5962, the Medicare Fraud, Prevention and Enforcement Act, to stop the abuses that are costing the Medicare system $20 billion a year.
Genetic Testing: Another bill I introduced, the Genetic Information Non- Discrimination Act (GINA, H.R. 1227, 233 cosponsors), would update our laws to ensure that Americans can fully utilize genetic testing to improve health and reduce costs without worrying that they will lose their jobs or health insurance.
Embryonic Stem Cell Research: allow federal funds to be used for the embryonic stem cell research that could lead to break-through cures and dramatic savings of lives and health care dollars.
