Travelers should be advised that the temporary accommodation permitting U.S. residents to travel by plane to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda using only government-issued photo identification and proof of passport application ended as scheduled on October 1, 2007.
Effective immediately, all U.S. residents traveling by air to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda must present a valid passport or other approved documentation to enter or depart from the United States. Those who departed the U.S. before this accommodation ended on October 1, 2007 will be readmitted with the same documents.
It is always strongly recommended that travelers verify the specific document requirements for their destination country. For the most up-to-date information, or to apply for a passport, please visit http://travel.state.gov/passport.
The Departments of State and Homeland Security recommend applying for passports as far in advance as possible. For additional assistance, please contact Representative Judy Biggert’s Willowbrook office at (630) 655-2052. |
