Description: The Board may license by Endorsement applicants who hold a current Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) license in a recognized jurisdiction. The national examination is waived for Endorsement applicants who have successfully completed the examination and achieved licensure. Endorsement applicants are, however, required to successfully complete the state NHA examination.

Fees - application, exam, etc.:  $300 Endorsement Application Fee + $250 Initial License Fee

Examination Information: License candidates are required to pass both a national and state examination. The national exam is waived for Endorsement candidates who have successfully passed the exam in a recognized jurisdiction.
  • National NHA Examination
    A 150 question, multiple-choice, computer-based examination administered at Sylvan Prometric Centers across the U.S. Examination candidates may take the exam up to four times per calendar year. Successful candidates shall achieve a minimum scale score of 113.
  • State NHA Examination
    A 50 question, multiple-choice, written examination based on Oregon nursing home regulations. The examination is administered at the board office located in Portland, Oregon. There is no limit on the number of attempts in a calendar year. Successful candidates shall achieve a minimum score of 84 percent (42 out of 50 questions answered correctly).
Continuing Ed Requirements: Continuing education is required for renewal of an NHA license in Oregon. Licensees may hold either an Active or Inactive license depending on their employment status.

  • Active License
    60 hours biennially (55 general hours + 5 ethics hours)
  • Inactive License
    30 hours biennially (27 general hours + 3 ethics hours)

Prerequisites:
  1. Baccalaureate degree or higher from an accredited school of higher education (waived if licensed as an NHA prior to January 1, 1983).
  2. Hold current NHA license in a recognized jurisdiction.
  3. Meets training and/or experience standards equivalent to the Board's AIT program (960 hours).
  4. Is of good moral character and in good physical and mental health.
  5. Criminal history free of felony convictions.
  6. Pass state NHA examination.
  7. Apply to the Board and remit required fee.

Renewals: All regular NHA licenses expire on June 30 of odd-numbered years, regardless the issue date. Renewing licensees are required to remit the renewal application and fee together with the continuing education report form.

Additional Information: License Without Examination applications are reviewed by the Board at quarterly meetings and applicants are notified in writing of the Board's decision. Applications may be deferred to a subsequent meeting if the required fee and documentation are not received 30 days prior to the scheduled meeting. Quarterly meetings are typically held on the second Wednesday in the months of January, April, July and October. In the event your application is denied, 50% of your fee is refundable
