Fees - application, exam, etc.:  Initial: $30, plus $45 license fee.
Renewal: $45 if postmarked by the license expiration date. After the license expiration date, an additional $45 penalty is due.
Responsible Agency: Insurance Division - Licenses
Examination Information:
  • Exam Time: By appointment only.
  • Exam Locationss: Eugene, Portland, Mount Lake Terrace, WA, Puyallup, WA, and Boise, ID.
  • Exam Passage Rate: 70 percent or higher.
  • Exam Repeat: No restrictions.
  • Exam Cost: $55 for General Lines, $55 for Life and Health.
Bonding Requirements: None
Insurance Requirements: Have errors and omissions insurance with limits not less than $500,000
Prerequisites: 1. Have a residence or place of doing business in Oregon.
2. Must disclose any criminal convictions.
3. Have five years insurance experience or equivalent educational qualifications.
4. Pass a written examination.
5. Have errors and omissions insurance with limits not less than $500,000 covering consultant activities.
6. Complete Form 440-3000.
7. Provide fingerprints.

Renewals: Required Documentation
Signed renewal notice or signed statement acknowledging insurance consultant has had no conviction of a misdemeanor or felony in the last two years. If so, they must provide details with the renewal request.

Effective January 1, 2008 - A license issued to an individual insurance producer expires biennially in the month of the individual's birthday.

Additional Information: Effective July 1, 2007 - The Oregon Insurance Division will no longer issue printed initial, renewal, or replacement licenses.
