Description: The Board may license as a nursing home administrator (NHA) applicants who qualify for License Without Examination. A license issued to an individual without examination shall apply only to the facility for which the governing body made the request and shall not be portable.

Examination Information: National and State Exam waived.
Continuing Ed Requirements: Postgraduate degree in management from an accredited school of higher education.

Prerequisites:
  1. Postgraduate degree in management from an accredited school of higher education.
  2. A request for licensure authorized by the hospital governing body.
  3. Has at least ten years experience in health care management as defined in OAR 853-010-0010(11).
  4. Is of good moral character and in good physical and mental health.
  5. Criminal history free of felony convictions.
  6. Apply to the Board on a form approved by the Board and pay the required license fee.

Renewals: NHA licenses expire on June 30 of odd-numbered years, regardless the issue date. Renewing licensees are required to remit the renewal application and fee together with the continuing education report form.

Required Documentation:
  • Official transcript from the registrarýs office where you received your masterýs degree in management. Your degree must be from an accredited school of higher education.
  • Two reference letters with one from your current employer and one from a previous employer stating the period that you worked for the employer, job title and a detailed description of the duties performed.
  • Resume' verifying ten years of experience in health care management and demonstrating experience in the areas of administration, planning, organizing, directing, staffing and budgeting of a hospital/health care facility.
  • A letter of request for your licensure as a nursing home administrator signed by the president or chair of the governing body of the hospital/health care facility.
Additional Information: License Without Examination applications are reviewed by the Board at quarterly meetings and applicants are notified in writing of the Board's decision. Applications may be deferred to a subsequent meeting if the required fee and documentation are not received 30 days prior to the scheduled meeting. Quarterly meetings are typically held on the second Wednesday in the months of January, April, July and October. In the event your application is denied, 50% of your fee is refundable
