Description: Companies operating trucks or buses in Oregon complete an Application for Motor Carrier Permit if their vehicles have a combined weight over 26,000 pounds, or if they're hauling for-hire with trucks weighing 26,000 pounds or less. The form is used to establish a new Oregon account and amend or change an existing account. Trucks and buses over 26,000 pounds report miles traveled in Oregon and pay a weight-mile (highway-use) tax.

See ORS Chapter 825 -- ORS 825.015 and 825.017 -- for a list of vehicles exempt from motor carrier regulation.

Wonder if a certain company is registered to operate in Oregon? One way to tell is to check if the company has filed proof of insurance for its vehicles. Oregon intrastate motor carrier must meet state insurance requirements. Interstate operators must meet federal requirements. Verify a company's Oregon insurance status.

Also, visit the national Safety and Fitness Electronic Records (SAFER) system to learn more about a company.
