Chet Edwards statement on the White House request for a retroactive cut of $1.3 billion from the 2002 Labor, Health & Human Services and Education Appropriation bill |
|
"While Ft. Hood soldiers are helping fight the war against terrorism, it would be terribly unfair to penalize their children by cutting funds desperately needed to ensure them a quality education. I worked hard to obtain the $2 million for KISD and hope the Administration will quickly change its decision and let this money be used for the benefit of Ft. Hood area schoolchildren. I agree with the goal of finding more funding for Pell college grants, but it would be wrong for the children of servicemen and women to be punished in the process. I am hopeful that Congress and the Administration can work together on a good-faith basis to solve this problem."
