authorized to entertain motions to suspend the rules
relating to House Resolution 34 on the legislative day
of Friday, January 9, 2009.
Agreed to without objection.
Ms. Kaptur asked unanimous consent that when the House
adjourns today, it adjourn to meet at 9:00 a.m. on January
9.

SPECIAL ORDER SPEECHES - The House has concluded all
anticipated legislative business and has proceeded to

DISSOLVING THE JOINT SESSION - After announcing the results
of the certification process, the Vice President announced
that the Joint Session was dissolved and that the results of
the proceedings had during the Joint Session would be
entered into the Journals of both Houses.

At the conclusion of counting the Electoral ballots, the
Vice President reported to the Joint Session that the votes
would be recorded as follows: For the Office of President of
the United States, Barack Obama--365; John McCain--173; and
for the Office of Vice President of the United States,
Joseph Biden--365; Sarah Palin--173.

CERTIFICATION OF ELECTORAL VOTES - Beginning with the state
of Alabama, the tellers proceeded with announcing the
results of the Electoral College balloting.

JOINT SESSION CALLED TO ORDER - The Vice President called
the Joint Session to order, announced the purpose of the
Joint Session and directed the tellers on the part of the
House and Senate to take seats at the Clerk's desk.

APPEARANCE OF THE SENATE - The Vice President and the
Members of the Senate appeared and were admitted into the
House Chamber to meet with the House in a Joint Session for
the purpose of certifying the Electoral College ballot
count.
