Volunteer Opportunities at the American River Water Education Center
A wide variety of volunteer options are available at the center. Here are some volunteer opportunities that may be of interest to you. Check it out!
Greeters - Work at the main desk greeting and assisting visitors. Provide information on local recreational opportunities and directions, and assist with sales and center display upkeep. Sales Staff - Provide sales assistance to visitors, operate cash register, make correct change, and may track and reorder merchandise. |
Programs and Activities - Lead activities or assist and/or conduct presentations for
|
Exhibit and Program Development - Assist in the development of materials and activities used in school programs. This may include exhibit development, brochures, and educational programs.
Miscellaneous - Help maintain the xeriscape garden, construct small building projects (benches, activity pieces, etc.), word processing, clerical assistance, help with special events and more! What is your special talent? Qualifications - Desire to work directly with the public, staff, and other volunteers. Must enjoy children. Have good communication skills, willing to be flexible, and friendly. Must be honest and be able to work independently. Must be ready to accept the fact that you are making a positive contribution to the environment and education of center visitors! |
Commitment
Minimum
of 6 hours per month with a one year commitment. The Education Center
is open Monday through Friday. Help with special events is requested
occasionally on weekends throughout the year. Regular volunteer meetings
are on the last Tuesday of every other month at the Education Center.

The mission of the American River Water Education Center - is to increase the public's knowledge of the watershed – both the natural features and human interactions within the watershed. Emphasis is placed on increasing the public's understanding of the water cycle and watersheds, and on how individuals can actively participate in resource conservation and on Folsom Dam's multiple roles in meeting the needs of urban, industrial, agricultural and natural systems.

Volunteers are asked to work a minimum of two, three hour shifts per month. Volunteer meetings are the last Tuesday of every other month at 8:30 a.m. Participation in the meetings is not essential. Meetings are held at the Center. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please call the Center or come to a meeting - 916/989-7289 |
