About the ProgramProgram AreasInformation ResourcesFinancial OpportunitiesTechnologiesDeploymentHome

Deployment activities address the transition of technologies from a prototype to a commercial product, with particular attention to the issue of barriers to the adoption of a given technology. The Geothermal Technologies Program supports deployment, market transformation and technology diffusion throughout the nation.

The Program provides information and technical assistance to policy and decision makers to assist in expanding the use of geothermal resources as an energy alternative that will increase economic development. The Program's deployment activities address the following areas:

  • Transactional Costs: Address institutional barriers to decrease project transactional cost.
  • Technical Unfamiliarity: Make decision makers aware of geothermal benefits and resource locations.
  • Power Market Process: Make utilities, power generators, and regulators aware of geothermal benefits.
  • Leasing, Permitting and Public Policies: Address policy constraints of land use plans, and federal and state requirements.
  • Environmental, Tribal, and Public Perception: Address environmental impacts and educate the public.
