Compost |
In 1988, the Water Reclamation Division initiated a composting facility for biosolids produced at the Southside Water Reclamation Plant. Biosolids are rich in organic matter, nitrogen and trace minerals, and the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) encourages safe biosolids re-use. Properly managed, composting qualifies as a Process to Further Reduce Pathogens under USEPA regulations, meaning that composted biosolids may be used in the production of crops even for direct human consumption. The Soils Amendment Facility (SAF) produces quality compost. Click on the links below for more information, or to find out how to you can obtain compost for your own outdoor projects. |
