Winter Activities at Lake Tahoe
The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit offers some of the finest winter recreational opportunities in the nation.
We recommend a stop at the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit Forest Supervisor's Office, located at 35 College Drive in South Lake Tahoe.
This office provides a year-round source of information. The front desk is open Monday through Friday
from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more

The Olympic Games at Squaw Valley in 1960 brought international attention to the Lake Tahoe area as a winter recreation
destination. Today, outdoor activities include skiing and snowboarding, snowmobiling, snow-shoeing,
sledding and much more!
Forest Service Seeks Ski with a Ranger Volunteers

guided tours over the snow at Heavenly Ski Resort one day a week
2009 Winter Trek Express
5th Grade Environmental Education Program
The US Forest Service, Heavenly Ski Resort, the City of South Lake Tahoe and the Tahoe Heritage Foundation
are excited to announce the 5th year of our high mountain Winter Trek Express. The 5th Grade Snowshoe program will
take place Mondays through Fridays starting January 12 and continuing through March 27, 2009

provide limited access to those with disabilities, we hope that by describing the following access information, you will be able
to make an informed decision about which sites will be the most worthwhile for you to visit.
The Lake Tahoe Basin offers the cross-country skier an opportunity to enjoy winter adventure
on the National Forest
Lands at Lake Tahoe. Cross-country skiing can provide freedom from lift lines, crowds and groomed slopes.
Information for Dog Owners who live at or visit Lake Tahoe including "Where can I take my dog?" Tips for hiking,
camping, boating, kayaking, swimming, skiing and snowshoeing with your dog. Resource information such as Dog-Friendly Events,
Veterinarians, 24-hour Emergency Services, Lost Pets and Boarding Facilities.
The Lake Tahoe area has one of the world's largest concentrations of Ski and
Snowboard Resorts in the world.
Over a dozen
resorts can be found in and around the Lake Tahoe Basin.
There are several Ice Skating facilities located in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Please be aware that skating on frozen lakes,
ponds and rivers may be hazardous and is not recommended and is at your own risk!
From the Taylor Creek Sno-Park, winter recreation opportunities abound. One may take an easy winter tour using cross
country skis or snowshoes through flat, forested areas to the shores of Fallen Leaf Lake. Or, for those with winter
backcountry experience looking for more of a challenge, one could make the trek up Mt. Tallac for great skiing and
snowboarding
The Lake Tahoe Basin offers many forms of winter recreation. Sledding and tubing are among the most popular with
children and adults
The California Department of Parks and Recreation operates 21 Sno-Park sites that provide snow-cleared parking lots with
sanitation facilities and access to snow play areas, cross-country ski and snowmobile trails.
Snowmobiling is a winter sport growing in popularity. Residents and visitors can access many acres of National Forest
Lands around the Lake Tahoe area.
