Program Spotlight


The Passage Assessment Database (PAD) is an ongoing map-based inventory of known and potential barriers to anadromous fish in California, compiled and maintained through a cooperative interagency agreement. The PAD compiles currently available fish passage information from many different sources, allows past and future barrier assessments to be standardized and stored in one place, and enables the analysis of cumulative effects of passage barriers in the context of overall watershed health. Updates to Central Valley Chinook Abundance:

The CalFish Salmonid Abundance Database has been streamlined and updated to provide a centralized location for sharing Central Valley Chinook salmon escapement estimates and annual monitoring reports to the public.
Open a database query or select Chinook Abundance information via the CalFish Map Viewer.

Pacific Northwest Regional Mark Information System (RMIS)

A link to the Pacific Northwest Regional Mark Information System (RMIS), which houses coded wire tag (CWT) information for California, has been added to CalFish, along with a tutorial for help querying the data.

Yuba River Named One of America's Most Endangered Rivers

American Rivers, a conservation group standing for clean water and healthy rivers, placed the Yuba River on the 2011 America's Most Endangered Rivers list. One of California's last refuges for spring-run Chinook salmon, the Yuba River has two dams blocking more than 100 miles of historic habitat.

NOAA Seeks Information for Chinook Salmon in Upper Klamath and Trinity Rivers

NOAA Fisheries is asking for information pertaining to Chinook salmon in the Upper Klamath and Trinity river basin to assist in completing the status review and decision whether to list the species under the Endangered Species Act. Comments have to be received by June 13, 2011.
