The number of persons known to be involved in the 7,644 robberies,
burglaries, and larcenies was 9,714. The following table shows a breakdown

Investigation to date has resulted in the identification of 5,032 of the
9,714 persons known to be involved. Of these 5,032 identified persons, 49%
were determined to be users of narcotics, and 18% were found to have been
previously convicted in either federal or state court for bank robbery, bank
burglary, or bank larceny.

Injuries, Deaths, and Hostages Taken
Acts of violence were committed during 394 of the 7,644
robberies, burglaries, and larcenies which occurred during this 12-month period.
These acts included 115 instances involving the discharge of firearms, 242 instances
involving assaults, two instances involving explosives, and 36 instances of hostage
situations. (One or more acts of violence may occur during an incident.) These
acts of violence resulted in 153 injuries, 21 deaths, and 82 persons being taken
hostage.

Acts of violence were committed during 25 of the 59 Armored
Carrier violations which occurred during this 12-month period. These acts included
11 instances involving the discharge of firearms, 13 instances involving assaults,
and one instance of a hostage situation. (One or more acts of violence may
occur during an incident.) These acts of violence resulted in 17 injuries,
two deaths, and four persons being taken hostage.
