Fryzel Visits Student CU BranchAlexandria, Va., November 6, 2008 – NCUA Chairman Michael E. Fryzel toured Regional Federal Credit Union and its student branch at Morton High School in Hammond, IN Tuesday. The Chairman’s visit continues his outreach to the credit union industry and his promotion of the importance of financial literacy. “Financial literacy has been a natural focus for credit unions. As they work to assist their members during these difficult times, credit unions should look for innovative and practical ways to expand financial education, and the Regional FCU student branch is an excellent example. This kind of outreach sets the foundation for America’s youth to become financially responsible adults, and is one that will pay significant dividends in the future,” noted Fryzel. Regional FCU’s Student Credit Union Program operates nine school branches, all run by student-members from each of the participating schools. The program was designed by Regional FCU to help students learn vital money-management skills, while also giving them a convenient way to deposit and withdraw from their savings accounts at school.
The National Credit Union Administration is the independent federal agency that regulates, charters and supervises federal credit unions. NCUA, with the backing of the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, operates and manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, insuring the deposits of nearly 89 million accounts in all federal credit unions and the overwhelming majority of state-chartered credit unions. -NCUA- |
