Family Violence Prevention and Services
Formula Grants
State
agencies, Native American Tribes and Alaskan Native Villages receive
formula grant funds to operate battered women’s shelters
that provide emergency shelter, crisis counseling, information
and referral, legal and service advocacy, transportation, emergency
child care and referrals for health care. In addition, formula
grants go to States for the maintenance of State domestic violence
coalitions, which are membership organizations representing the
majority of domestic violence shelters in each State.
Funds
to State agencies, Native American Tribes and Alaskan Native Villages
are used for the provision of shelter to victims of family violence
and their dependents and for related services. They also allow
States and Tribes to expand current service programs and establish
additional services in rural and underserved areas, on Native
American reservations and in Alaskan Native Villages.
Coalition
funds may be used for technical assistance and training to local
domestic violence programs and support the implementation of collaborative
activities with public agencies and other service providers within
their States.
States,
Territories, Native American Tribes, Alaskan Native Villages and
non-profit State domestic violence coalitions are eligible to
apply for the formula grants.
