1. University of Manitoba Transport Institute

Transportation Policy and Service Development has partnered with the University of Manitoba Transport Institute to conduct annual transportation research activities.   The research focuses on several areas including:

  • Rural freight supply chain issues, particularly affecting the agricultural and primary resource extraction sectors;
  • Further developing Manitoba, within a national supply chain setting, as a global trade and transportation gateway with a focus on key multi-modal trade corridors and gateways, and Manitoba’s connectivity with internationally connected transport systems, such as the mid-continent trade corridor; and
  • Understanding provincial transportation developments, via ongoing benchmarking of supply chain activity in Manitoba from a best practices perspective, annual trend analysis on transport activity, flows and services in Manitoba, shipper needs surveys, economic impact studies, and the like.

2. Centre for Sustainable Transportation

Another MIT research affiliate is the Centre for Sustainable Transportation (CST).  The Centre was founded to provide leadership in achieving sustainable transportation in Canada. It provides reliable information, fills knowledge gaps through research, educates stakeholders and raises awareness among them, and offers strategic policy advice in selected areas. The Centre strives to become a central resource on sustainable transportation practices and supporting information.

The role of the Centre is to assist decision-makers in making appropriate choices in how Canada’s transportation systems are planned and delivered. It is a membership-based organization and welcomes supporters from all parts of Canada and beyond.
