Manitoba-Winnipeg Recreation and Leisure Infrastructure Program

Background Information

On April 22, 2005, the Government of Canada, the Province of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg announced a realignment of strategic infrastructure priorities for Winnipeg.

Federal and provincial CSIF support for the Kenaston Underpass project and improvements to the City's wastewater treatment system are facilitating the tri-level arrangement whereby Manitoba is contributing $17 million and Winnipeg $26 million for a $43 million, multi-year program of strategic community facility enhancements.

This $43 million investment provides for a comprehensive package of enhanced and new facilities throughout Winnipeg, as well as three "investment funds" for improvements to aging community centres, skateboard parks, and spray parks. The Province of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg have agreed on the first round of priority projects.

The General Council of Winnipeg Community Centres (GCWCC) is playing an active role in community consultation and involvement in the Community Centre Investment Fund.
