Tennessee is home to many different types of livestock. The 2004 Tennessee Equine Survey accounted for 210,000 head of Equine (horses, donkeys and mules) located in the state on January 1, 2004. Based on the 2002 Census of Agriculture, Tennessee ranks second in the number of Equine on farms in the U.S. The value of Tennessee's Equine on January 1, 2004, was estimated at $565 million.

Tennessee has more than 2 million head of cattle. Tennessee has feeder cattle available year-round through such specialty sales as preconditioned, graded and video as well as sales at local auction markets.

The goat industry in Tennessee has grown extensively over recent years, and Tennessee now ranks 2nd in the nation for goat inventory. There are several goat sales across the state, including one that is graded by a Tennessee Department of Agriculture livestock specialist.
