24.01 Shields, crestsShields or crests can vary from quite simple to extremely ornate designs. While they are often surrounded by or contain crowns, armor and/or heraldic animals, they may merely suggest a shield or crest because of the overall shape of the design.

24.05.01 Circular or elliptical seals
Note: Seals generally consist of concentric circles or ovals with words, letters or numbers between the concentric circles or ovals. When the text of the mark clearly indicates that the design is a seal, circular or elliptical seals are not cross-referenced in Category 26. When the shape of the seal engenders a commercial impression separate and apart from that of the seal, the circular or elliptical seal should be cross-referenced in Category 26. For example, a decorative or irregular shaped border or circumference or letters comprising a circle should be cross-referenced. Shading, concentric circles and letters forming the perimeter of a circle should not be cross-referenced

Specific Guideline: A banner is a representation of a strip of fabric often displaying a device or legend. Designs containing more than one banner are not cross-coded with 24.09.09.
