If
you are a Baby Boomer, you grew up during the Cold War and the Space Race.
You also remember the numerous products that were born out of NASA funded research and
then commercialized. One popular food product was a Tootsie Roll-like product, in
several flavors, called Space Food Sticks.
They were a
convenient energy snack (pre-energy bar
era) invented by Pillsbury as a contingency food for the Apollo moon
flights. Released to the public in 1969, Space Food Sticks remained
popular and profitable until the early 1980s when they were discontinued
in the United States.
A
small company
has been working since 2000 to
bring back this nostalgic treat in its original formulation and flavor.
And after many obstacles and much hard work, they are back!
When we received our
samples, we ripped open the envelope, the packet, unwrapped a piece, popped
them in our mouth, and immediately the flood of memories hit. This is a
great recreation of a treat from a simpler and fast changing time in history. - More ->>
