The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has completed the 2008 national survey for Phytophthora ramorum. Approximately 10,300 samples were taken from nursery plants at 244 plant nursery locations throughout Canada.
The pathogen was detected in plants at six nurseries in the urban areas of Greater Vancouver and Greater Victoria, British Columbia. Eradication actions have been ordered at all sites and eradication activities are being completed in an additional 6 nurseries that were found to have infected plants in 2007. Eradication activities for most sites should be complete by late winter.
Under IPPC Standards (e.g., ISPM No. 8), P. ramorum is considered present (some British Columbia nurseries only) and under eradication in Canada. For more information on P. ramorum, please visit the CFIA website at www.inspection.gc.ca.
