Public Health Informatics Fellowship Program

Eligibility and Application Information

We prepare qualified professionals to meet the growing demand for public health informatics expertise.

Eligibility

To apply for PHIFP, you must

  • meet both the educational and professional requirements,
  • be willing to commit to a 2-year full-time program, and
  • be willing to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia.

 

Educational Requirements

Master’s degree or higher from an accredited academic institution in one of the following fields:

  • public health, medicine, health care, health-services research;
  • computer science, information science, information systems;
  • statistics;
  • epidemiology; or
  • public health informatics or related discipline.

 

Professional Requirements

At least 1 year documented experience in

  • informatics,
  • information systems,
  • computer science,
  • information technology, or
  • informatics-related field.

 

And at least 1 year documented experience in

  • public health or
  • related health-care profession.

 

Citizenship

U.S. citizenship is not required. Non-U.S. citizens are permitted to apply, but must meet the visa and immigration requirements.

 

Timeline

May–Nov

Applications are accepted.

Dec

Selected candidates are invited for interview.

Jan–Feb

Interviews are conducted at CDC in Atlanta, Georgia. Applicants are responsible for their travel expenses.

Acceptance and placement notifications are made.

Mar

Applicants notified of acceptance into the program.

Jul

Fellowship begins.

You may apply online before November 14, 2008. Additional supporting material is required.

Supporting Material

In addition to the online application, the following supporting material must be mailed to the PHIFP office. These materials must be received by November 21, 2008.

Letters of Recommendation

Three letters of recommendation are required. Select persons who are familiar with your academic achievements, future aspirations, personal qualities, and professional attributes. Provide them with a copy of the PHIFP Request for Letter of Recommendation (PDF) (2 pages; 26 KB).

  • One letter must be from a faculty member or supervisor.
  • All letters must be submitted in English.

  

Transcripts

  • You must provide official transcripts for all degrees you have earned.
  • If transcripts are not issued by a U.S. institution, other proof of degree completion must be submitted. Transcripts and proof of degree completion must be translated into English.
  • High school transcripts are not required.
