Democrats Make Gross Power Grab with Rules Changes

Washington, DC – Rep. Tom Price (GA-06) issued the following statement today on Democrats’ efforts to change House rules in order to pave the way for new tax hikes and diminish accountability.

“If we learned anything in the last Congress, it’s that Democrat promises aren’t worth the campaign flyers they are printed on,” said Rep. Price. “While the American people are looking for unity, House Democrats are apparently looking only for unbridled political power. Given a simple choice, they have opted for centralizing their authority rather than giving a voice to all Americans. With a shameful assortment of heavy-handed measures, Speaker Pelosi and fellow Democrats have shut opposing voices out of the legislative process and provided a partisan shield for their misguided policies.

“It appears that this blatant power grab serves only to diminish accountability and clear the path for their tax-hiking agenda, while paving the way for ethically-challenged chairmen to remain in power. Never once in the twelve years of Republican control was the minority so abused as Democrats have done so today. This is an insult to Americans who have made clear they seek solutions, not petty politics. The commitment of House Democrats to silencing the opposition and forcing new tax hikes upon the American people is a frightening indication of what the American people can expect over the next two years.”
