2017 REU Program Now Accepting Applications

UT Department of Chemistry 2017  Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program is now accepting applications. Deadline to apply is Feb. 1st, 2017. For this 10-week program, participants will receive $5,000 stipend, up to $500 travel reimbursement, free housing and parking on campus. The Department offers seminars, site visits, workshops and social activities throughout the program. The participants will be presenting their research at a joint poster session and a final symposium.

The Department of Chemistry hosted an orientation reception on Tuesday, August 2 to welcome the 21 students that join the graduate programs this fall. More than 80 faculty, staff and current graduate students attended the reception. More pictures coming soon.

Undergraduate Degrees in Chemistry

UT Department of Chemistry offers either a B.S. degree with a major in chemistry or a B.S. in Chemistry degree that is certified by the Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society (ACS). There are many opportunities for chemistry majors to participate in undergraduate research projects with faculty. We offer many areas of study: analytical, synthetic, inorganic, physical and materials chemistry. Chemistry majors may also graduate with honors in chemistry.

Musfeldt Group Received $1.6 Million NSF-DMREF Award for Advanced Materials Research

Janice Musfeldt (second from right), Ziegler Professor of Chemistry at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in collaboration with David Vanderbilt, Sang-Wook Cheong, Kristjan Haule, and Valery Kiryukhin from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, recently won a $1.6 million DMREF Award from National Science Foundation for their project titled "Collaborative Research: Emergent functionalities in 3d/5d multinary chalcogenides and oxides."
