Science Fellows Celebrate 10 Years
The Jefferson Science Fellowship program held a gathering July 15 at the National Academy of Sciences building to celebrate the program's 10-year anniversary. Administered by the National Academies, the program supports university faculty on one-year assignments at the U.S. Department of State or USAID, where they serve as science and technology advisers on foreign policy issues, often traveling to U.S. embassies and missions overseas.

  
Sustainability and the US EPABlog Post Highlights PGA’s Work on Sustainability
Neil Hawkins, a member of PGA’s Roundtable on Science and Technology for Sustainability, wrote a post for the Mitchell Foundation’s website highlighting the National Research Council’s work around sustainability. Hawkins explains the Roundtable’s efforts to draw attention to the food-water-energy nexus -- which has been called the “stress nexus” of sustainable development – and discusses two reports that “promise to have dramatic impact on the United States contributions to global sustainable development”: Sustainability and the U.S. EPA and Sustainability for the Nation: Resource Connections and Governance Linkages. Jorge Moreira da Silva, Portugal's minister of environment, spatial planning, and energy, speaking at a National Research Council event on June 11, discussed his country's ambitious sustainability efforts. The event also hosted panelists from Portuguese industry and research institutes, and closing remarks were made by the U.S. EPA Deputy Administrator Robert Perciasepe and Portugal's Secretary of State for Energy, Artur Trindade. Workshop: Measures of Community Resilience: From Lessons Learned to Lessons Applied

The Resilient America Roundtable will host a workshop that focuses on the kinds of indicators that exist for measuring resilience, and which indicators communities might use and why. The workshop will emphasize ways to transfer the concepts of resilience measures as presented in the 2012 NRC report “Disaster Resilience: A National Imperative” into practical actions that communities can implement at the local level.

GUIRR Webinar: Partnerships for Innovation: Accelerating Innovation Research (PFI:AIR)

There are two solicitations associated with the PFI:AIR program: one aimed at single investigator faculty, the PFI:AIR--Technology Translation (PFI:AIR-TT) program, and one aimed at NSF sponsored research consortia such as Centers, the PFI:AIR-Research Alliance (PFI:AIR-RA) program.
