Automobile Injury Compensation Appeals Commission

Consumers' Bureau

  • Provides a medium for the mediation and investigation of consumer complaints and takes action as appropriate concerning prosecution of offenders under the Acts administered.
  • Informs and educates individuals and businesses of their rights and responsibilities as well as potential risks in the marketplace.
  • Licences/registers/grants certifications or authorizations to vendors and individual sellers engaged in direct selling; collection agencies and collectors; hearing aid dealers; charities fundraising in Manitoba; and manufacturers or renovators of stuffed articles.

Federal-Provincial Relations Division

  • Provides research, technical and analytical support in respect of national and provincial fiscal and economic matters and intergovernmental finance relations, including cost-shared programs.
  • Administers fiscal arrangements and tax collection agreements with the Federal Government as well as tax credit programs with the federal government and municipalities.

Financial Institutions Regulation Branch

  • Administers legislation governing insurance companies, trust and loan corporations, credit unions, caisse populaires and cooperatives operating in Manitoba.
  • Reviews and approves legal documents for credit unions, caisse populaires and cooperatives and maintains a registry open to the public.
  • Licences accident and baggage insurance agents, hail insurance agents and hail insurance adjusters.

Tax Assistance Office

  • Informs and assists residents of Manitoba on the Manitoba income tax and tax credit programs.
  • Monitors all claims to ensure accuracy, corrects inaccurate claims and recovers ineligible amounts previously claimed by taxpayers.

The Property Registry

  • Provides a registry where ownership and interests in land (such as a mortgage or caveat) may be recorded and where records are maintained of all personal property registered as security for a loan, or collateral in Manitoba, including information on vehicle liens, land transfers, land transfer tax and historical searches.

The Residential Tenancies Branch

  • Provides information and education to tenants and landlords about their rights and responsibilities.
  • Provides mediation and adjudication services to resolve landlord and tenant disputes.
  • Investigates possible breaches of the Residential Tenancies Act and the Life Leases Act and provides background information to resolve disputes.
  • Offers mediation and adjudication services on Claims and Applications for Orders of Possession.
  • Provides clients with information on the Orders the Branch has issued since 1999.
  • Provides Rent Status reports to individuals or businesses considering the purchase of residential housing complexes.

Treasury Board Secretariat

  • Provides financial and analytical support and advice to the Minister of Finance and Treasury Board.
  • Treasury Board is a sub-committee of Cabinet responsible for the overall fiscal management and reporting of the Manitoba government and the establishment of policies required for the effective management of public funds to meet government objectives.
