MU In The Evening Overview
Now is your chance to finish the bachelor’s degree you’ve always wanted. Whether you started at Mizzou, or somewhere else, you can now earn your MU degree alongside other working adults in evening classes.
Hoping to gain practical knowledge that will help you on the job today? We'll help you do that. Need to improve your writing, presentation and problem-solving skills? MU In The Evening will help you with those, too.

The courses you take will be from various subject areas that you choose, and the degree is called a bachelor of general studies. This is a great degree program for the returning adult student because it is flexible enough to let you choose the focus areas that interest you most. It also lets you transfer in past course work. Our advisers will work closely with you as you determine what credits will transfer and to make sure you don't have to enroll in any unnecessary course work.

The degree
The bachelor of general studies degree, like all MU bachelor’s degrees, requires 120 credit hours. The “major” in general studies is composed of three component areas that you choose. Components consist of courses that have been grouped together around a common theme, or subject area. The BGS program offers several components that have been designed with adult students in mind. Even our electives, such as contemporary issues courses, cover topics of interest to adult learners.

Note: General Studies is not an appropriate program for a second baccalaureate degree. However, students may take individual courses or a series of courses to update their knowledge and skills in a particular area.

Taking courses (not as part of the degree program)
MU In The Evening makes it easy for you to learn for the sake of learning, or to try out a class or two before making a final decision about coming back to school.

You can take courses as a non-degree student in order to build your GPA to have a better chance of being admitted to the University when you apply. When students do this, those same courses WILL count toward the degree once they are admitted to the program. No matter what reason you have for taking individual courses, you will enroll through the Direct Access process.
