To read about Eligible Research Topics, go to the page "Granting Programme"

IFS Research grants are reserved for developing country scientists for research projects carried out in a developing country.

Country eligibility is based on the GNI per capita (GNI = Gross National Income) of the country, as published annually by World Bank. The upper limit is drawn at the average GNI/capita for so-called Upper Middle Income Countries (UMIC). If a country's GNI/capita increases and exceeds this upper limit for some consecutive years, the country will be phased out of the IFS granting programme.

Due to the improved economic situation in Argentina, Mexico and Uruguay, these countries are no longer eligible for IFS grants.

Chile is in a similar position and applications for 1st grants will be accepted only until 31 December 2008 and for renewal grants until 31 December 2010.
