Service Academy Nominations
The United States government operates four excellent service academies which train individuals to become officers in the Armed Forces or Merchant Marine. Three of the academies are operated by the Department of Defense. The Merchant Marine Academy is operated by the Department of Transportation. Students attend these four year academies prior to completing required military service. The academies are:
U.S. Air Force Academy
U.S. Naval Academy
U.S. Military Academy
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
Application for a nomination for the Class of 2013 is open to all men and women who are residents of the 7th District, at least 17 years old, but have not passed their 23rd birthday and will graduate high school by July 1, 2009. Candidates must meet minimum scholastic standards, pass a physical aptitude test and a medical fitness examination.
My deadline for a completed application file is October 24, 2008.
Interviews will be conducted on Saturday, November 15, 2008.
