LANL Group Insurance coverage(s) end at the end of the month of your termination event. For example, whether you terminate on April 3 or April 30, your active benefits will end on April 30.
When you decide to terminate, take an approved leave of absence (LOA), or change to casual status, you must follow these steps:
Step 1 | Discuss your plans with your group manager and finalize your date of employment termination, LOA, or change to casual status. Communicating these decisions to your management as soon as possible helps ensure a smooth departure for you and your group. |

Step 2 | Your group leader should immediately begin the applicable termination process. |
Step 3 | If you lose benefit coverage due to your termination from the Lab, you may be eligible for continuation of benefits through COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act). You will be notified in writing of your COBRA rights shortly after any eligible coverage is terminated. Please refer to the COBRA Rate Chart (pdf) for information on plan costs. |
