Carteret Avenue in Jersey City has been indefinitely closed to all but local vehicular traffic due to deteriorating roadway conditions, a city official announced today. A 72-year-old Jersey City man is accused of whacking his super with a walking cane after she entered his apartment to do some cleaning, police reports said. James Hodgdon, of Kennedy Boulevard near Carlton Avenue, was charged Wednesday evening with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, police reports said. The body found along the North Bergen shoreline this morning was that of a New York man who jumped off the George Washington Bridge last night, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said today.
