The Office of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer (OIPTT) and the Iowa State University Research Foundation, Inc. (ISURF) work in concert to facilitate and enhance the inventive and creative works of Iowa State University's employees and students, and to transfer these works for the benefit of society.

On September 16, 2011, President Obama signed into law the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act ("AIA"), H.R. 1249, which was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on June 23, 2011.   The changes will be phased in over the next 18 months.  During the next few days, weeks and months we will be making information on patent reform available to the ISU community through this web site and open meetings with departments and colleges. 

 

The one-year anniversary of the America Invents Act is approaching, and several important provisions will take effect as of September 16, 2012. An overview of these provisions is available here.

 ISURF Reinvests in University Research.  Over the last ten years, ISURF returned over $52 million to inventors, colleges, and research centers and established a $9.5 million Research and Economic Opportunities Fund in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development.   ISURF is collaborating with the Department of Energy to promote Ames Laboratory technologies on the Energy Innovation Portal.
