CDC/ATSDR Association of Professional
Women & The National Women's History Month
Program CDC/ATSDR celebrated Women's History Month by hosting "Women Pioneering the Future." The event took place on Friday, March 7, at CDC/ATSDR's Roybal Campus in Atlanta, Georgia. Captain Pelagie "Mike" Snesrud opened the program with a discussion of Native American women as leaders of their people. Dr. Beth Skaggs introduced the Keynote Speaker, Dr. Julie Louise Gerberding, Director of CDC/ATSDR. Dr. Gerberding spoke about the circles of women who have influenced her from childhood through the present. She emphasized the idea that today's girls look up to the women in their lives as role models. Young women rely on those who come before them to "pave the way"; she challenged the audience to ask themselves "who can I help?" Ms. Marie Young gave closing remarks, presenting each speaker with a Certificate of Appreciation, and a special award to Dr. Gerberding for being a pioneer in medicine and at CDC/ATSDR.
