BIGMAP Symposium Scheduled for APR. 21-22
The 6th Annual BIGMAP Symposium will take place
April 21 and 22, 2009, at the Gateway Conference Center in
Ames, Iowa. The symposium has been expanded to a 1 1/2 -day event to be conducted
in conjunction with the Seed Science Center initiative for food and fuel safety.
Three half-day sessions will address various aspects of the theme “Food
and Fuel Crops: Issues, Policies, and Regulation” with emphasis on
both the needs of Iowa and the developing world. For more information,

Munkvold to Chair Graduate Program in Seed Technology and Business
Gary Munkvold, Iowa State University associate professor of plant pathology
and Seed Science Center Endowed Chair, has been appointed chair of the Graduate
Program in Seed Technology and Business (STB).
The program combines seed science and technology with essential courses in
business management into a single graduate program that is not offered anywhere

Munkvold, Gaul Receive Grow Iowa Values Fund Grant
For the fourth time, Iowa State has awarded competitive grants from the
Grow Iowa Values Fund. The grants are to go to research projects with high
potential to boost the state's economic development efforts.
Seed Science Center Associate professor of plant pathology Gary Munkvold
and Assistant Scientist Alan Gaul received a grant to develop a low-temperature,
plasma treatment for seeds designed to reduce pathogen levels and
improve the effectiveness of seed treatment. Read
