Sixth BIGMAP Symposium Scheduled for April 21-22, 2009
The date has been set for the 2009 BIGMAP Symposium. The 6th Annual BIGMAP
Symposium will take place April 21 and 22, 2009 at the Gateway Conference Center
in Ames, Iowa. The symposium has been expanded to a 1 1/2-day event to be conducted
in conjunction with the Seed Science Center initiative for food and fuel safety.
Three half-day sessions will address various aspects of the theme “Food
and Fuel Crops: Issues, Policies, and Regulation” with emphasis on
both the needs of Iowa and the developing world. For more information,

BIGMAP, CABI Sign
Agreement to Develop Compendium
On April 22, 2008, the Biosafety Institute for Genetically Modified Agricultural
Products (BIGMAP) at Iowa State University and representatives from
CAB International (CABI) signed an agreement to begin development of a
compendium on GM agriculture and biosafety. Focusing on genetically engineered
plants and animals, the compendium will be designed to communicate science-based
information about the expressed traits and products of genetically modified
agricultural products (GMAPs) and will serve as a tool to inform scientists,
industry, educators, and the public about their safety and use.
