9th International Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring

September 10-12, 2013 | Stanford University

Abstracts are due February 1, 2013 for a special session entitled “SHM/NDE for Civil Infrastructures: Recent Developments and Challenges” at the 9th International Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring, to be held September 10-12, 2013 at Stanford University. The special session will focus on recent developments of SHM/NDE technologies for damage assessment of civil infrastructures, and the issues and challenges related to their implementation in real world applications. Suggested topics include:

Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) 2013 Annual Meeting

February 12-15, 2013 | Seattle, Washington

Registration has been extended to Friday, January 18 for EERI's 2013 Annual Meeting, which will take place February 12-15 in Seattle, Washington. With the theme “Building Resilient Communities through Policy and Mitigation,” the meeting has much to offer engineers, scientists, emergency managers, and policy makers, highlighting earthquake policy issues while also offering insights from researchers and practitioners from around the country. New York - Northeast Chapter of EERI Lecture & Meeting: Extreme Engineering for Multiple Extreme Hazards: Applications to Offshore Structures

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 | New York City

Daniel Fenz, Research Specialist in the Offshore Function of ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company and UB alumnus, will deliver a lecture to members of the EERI NY-NE Chapter on Wednesday, February 20, 2013. Entitled “Extreme Engineering for Multiple Extreme Hazards: Applications to Offshore Structures,” the lecture will use the Arkutun-Dagi platform, to be installed in 2013 off the coast of Sakhalin Island in far eastern Russia, as an illustrative example.

The lecture will be held at the Pratt School of Architecture, 144 West 14th St, Room 213. Registration is from 5:30-6 pm, and the lecture is from 6 to 7 pm. One PDH will be provided. There is a $10 fee for non-EERI members. Contact Jesse Richins at jrichins@mrce.com to RSVP.

2013 fib Symposium: Engineering a Concrete Future: Technology, Modeling & Construction

The International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib) 2013 Symposium will be held in Tel-Aviv, Israel, on April 22-24, 2013. The Symposium theme, “Engineering a Concrete Future: Technology, Modeling and Construction,” is directed at innovative aspects of concrete engineering in its various stages. Andrei Reinhorn, Clifford C. Furnas Professor of Engineering, Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, University at Buffalo and MCEER investigator, is serving on the Steering Committee.

Seventh National Conference on Bridges and Highways (7NSC)

The Seventh National Conference on Bridges and Highways will be held at the Oakland Marriott City Center in Oakland, California on May 20-22, 2013. With the theme of “Bridge Resilience for Earthquakes and Other Natural Hazards,” the conference’s objective is to increase awareness of natural hazards and to enhance the technical expertise of engineering professionals so they can mitigate the risk of failure or damage to bridges and highways. 22nd International Conference on Structural Mechanics in Reactor Technology (SMiRT-22)

August 18–23, 2013 | San Francisco

The 22nd International Conference on Structural Mechanics in Reactor Technology (SMiRT-22) will be held on August 18–23, 2013 in San Francisco, and offers a forum for technical discussions on critical topics facing the nuclear industry today. The conference will emphasize topics related to safety and reliability. Lessons learned from recent events, such as the earthquake and tsunami at Fukushima in 2011, will be shared in extended sessions.

Recent Events

15th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering

September 24-28, 2012 | Lisbon, Portugal

MCEER/CSEE was well-represented at the 15th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering (15WCEE), held in Lisbon, Portugal from September 24-28, 2012. Sixteen papers and/or posters by MCEER-affiliated authors associated with the University at Buffalo’s Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering (CSEE) showcased recent research on a wide variety of topics including seismic protective systems, bridges and highways, community resilience, critical lifelines, and nonstructural components.
