RegistrationRegistration will open within the next month. MOWAA Members can look for both an email and a mail brochure in February with more information about specific events at Conference, as well as their first opportunity to register. As usual, there will be both online and mail registration options available. Non-MOWAA Members are welcome to attend as well, and will soon be able to find the registration form online.
Money MattersWe know that for some Members, programs are facing financial challenges so we are doing all we can to make the 2009 MOWAA Annual Conference as affordable as possible. We will once again award many scholarships to paying MOWAA Members only, and this will take place in the next few months. As always, a scholarship will cover the full cost of Conference registration. We are holding the Conference fee steady at last years’ rate of $375 for Members and $400 for Affiliates. In the past several years, we have raised the Conference fees as MOWAA’s costs have increased. For 2009, however, we are keeping the rates the same as they were in 2008.
EducationAt the 2009 MOWAA Annual Conference, we are providing an array of educational opportunities that tie in directly to the Membership Sections and the National Center for Nutrition Leadership Certificate programs.
AccommodationsThe 2009 MOWAA Annual Conference will take place at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina. The hotel is located on the waterfront and is sure to provide a scenic and comfortable setting for our Conference. Fortunately, the Sheraton is also in close proximity to the airport, which can make travel more convenient for those who will be traveling by air.
EntertainmentThis year, Conference is back to back with Labor Day Weekend. Below are a few suggestions to make the 2009 MOWAA Annual Conference a family destination: Passport to Balboa Park
San Diego’s picturesque Balboa Park is one of the world’s great urban parks. Its 1,200 acres in central San Diego are more than 130 years old and have been the site of two world expositions. The park is home to the San Diego Zoo, Old Globe Theatre and 15 museums including: - Aerospace Museum – where the history and majesty of flight comes alive! Real-life aircrafts are suspended from the ceiling and exhibited throughout the museum, giving visitors insight into the fascinating story of flight.
- San Diego Museum of Art – which is the region's oldest and largest art museum and houses a fine selection of European old masters, 19th and 20th century American art.
Day at the San Diego Zoo
The World Famous San Diego Zoo has been the gem of San Diego for more than 80 years. Starting as a small collection of animals, the Zoo has grown into a sanctuary for more than 4,000 birds, mammals and reptiles housed in enclosures that closely simulate their natural environments. The 100-acre Zoo is also a lush botanical garden that houses more than 6,500 plant species!
Exploring Old Town San Diego
The history and excitement of early California will come alive as you spend time exploring Old Town. This historical landmark boasts the distinction of being the first settlement on the Western Coast of the United States. Most importantly, don’t forget to try some authentic Mexican cuisine that Old Town offers.
