Although many corporations act responsibly toward
local communities, their workers and the environment, others will
put their profits ahead of
unless carefully monitored and
held accountable by the public.
WORC and its member groups have campaigned to hold
corporations accountable in communities in our region. Weve
campaigned to prevent pollution from facilities like power plants
and mines, protect taxpayers from expensive clean up bills by demanding
appropriate bonds, and have corporations pay for the costs of development,
such as water systems and roads.
Specifically, WORC has:
- Trained leaders and organizers to negotiate and conduct corporate
research;
- Negotiated "good
neighbor agreements" with corporations to protect the
health and safety of local communities ; and
- Held popular
education workshops to promote a greater public dialogue on
corporate responsibility.
- Produced an informative factsheet in WORCs series of
How Tos How
to Negotiate.
