Linking to IngentaConnect
Ingenta provides an algorithmic linking syntax to enable anyone to link to content hosted on IngentaConnect. The syntax can be used by anyone to create links from websites, databases and catalogues to journals, issues, articles, books or chapters on IngentaConnect.
Although anyone can link to IngentaConnect, full text access is only enabled if the user has a subscription to the document or is prepared to purchase the article online. Read more about activating subscriptions.
To download a list (delimited text file) of the URLs and title information for your subscribed journals, sign in with your administrator details and select Download subscribed titles list from the Administration menu.
To download a list (delimited text file) of the URLs and title information for ALL electronic journals on IngentaConnect, choose one of the following:
- Title-level links list (CSV file with the following fields: Publisher,Title,PaperISSN/ISBN,ElectronicISSN,DateRange,Title-levelEasyLink)
- Article-level links title list (CSV file with the following fields: Status,TitleID,PaperISSN/ISBN,ElectronicISSN,DateRange,Title,Publisher,PublisherShortCode. This should be used in conjunction with the instructions for Creating a direct link to an article to formulate predictable article-level URLs).
Linking partners are asked to add an additional parameter to enable Ingenta to log traffic from your website or database. Please contact customer service for more information.

Creating a direct link to a journal or book
The simplest syntax to use for linking to a journal homepage on Ingenta is:
http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/<issn>
where <issn> is replaced by the journal's paper or electronic ISSN.
The following alternative syntax can also be used:
http://openurl.ingenta.com/content?genre=journal&issn=…
You simply need to add the journal’s ISSN – the syntax can accept electronic ISSN or paper ISSN in this field.

To link to a monograph or book homepage, you should use the following syntax:
http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/<isbn>
where <isbn> is replaced by the book or monograph's ISBN.
Creating a direct link to an article
The recommended base URL for linking to a journal article on Ingenta is:
http://openurl.ingenta.com/content?genre=article…
You then need to specify the article required by adding metadata elements to the URL. Ingenta recommends including the following elements as a minimum to obtain best results:
ISSN (&issn=)
Volume (&volume=)
Issue (&issue=)
Start page of article (&spage=)
End page of article (&epage=)
For example:
http://openurl.ingenta.com/content?genre=article&issn=1368-9800&volume=7&issue=4&spage=473&epage=474
Article-level links take the user to the article abstract page on IngentaConnect. From here the user can log in or complete a pay-per-view purchase to access the full text and associated content.
