Mission
It is the mission of the Bureau of Geology and Natural Areas
to provide the People of Maine with quality information to facilitate informed
decision-making for natural resource management, economic development,
conservation planning, and regulation; to provide public assistance; and
to promote education. The bureau will inventory, map, assess, and interpret
Maine's geology and the ecology of the State's plants, animals, and natural
communities. The bureau will support its mission by using computerized
geographic information systems and databases, and by publishing maps and
reports. To further the mission, the bureau will coordinate the Department
of Conservation's use of geographic information systems.
