Male doctoral S&E faculty outnumber female S&E faculty by more than 2 to 1.

Research I institutions were the largest employer of male and female doctoral S&E faculty in 2003.
Almost 60,000 male doctoral S&E faculty were employed in Research I institutions in 2003, compared with about 25,000 female S&E faculty.
Comprehensive institutions employed 32,000 male doctoral S&E faculty and 14,000 female S&E faculty.
