The Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) has been sharing the wealth of Smithsonian collections and research programs with millions of people outside of Washington, DC, for more than 50 years. One of the Smithsonian's four national outreach programs, our exhibitions have delighted and informed audiences about everything under the sun, from fine art to endangered species, from politics to jazz. Inspiration for these eclectic topics comes from the curators and collections of the Smithsonian as well as collaborations with outside scholars. To submit a proposal, see our guidelines.

SITES specializes in creating three dimensional, full-scale exhibition "packages" containing objects, images, and interpretive text. Many exhibitions also include cases, freestanding display units, and computer and audiovisual equipment.

The exhibition "package" also provides curatorial and registrarial information; shipping, handling, and installation instructions; educational and programming resources; publications;
and insurance.

By bringing the Smithsonian directly to the places where you live, work, and play, SITES connects Americans to their shared cultural heritage. We circulate our exhibitions as widely as possible: museums, libraries, science centers, historical societies, community centers, botanical gardens, schools, and shopping malls.

Exhibition tour management includes scheduling exhibitions into facilities that meet security and handling requirements; assessing exhibition objects and other components for travelability; supervising customized packing and shipping; creating installation guidelines; monitoring condition before, during, and after each venue; and returning all items to various lenders at the completion of each successful tour.

SITES is always looking for new places to visit. Go directly to Host an Exhibition for details.

To help us reach millions of Americans every year, SITES actively pursues sources of public and private funding. Go directly to Funding for details.
