UW Department of Classics in the College of Arts & Sciences

Welcome to the Department of Classics

Welcome to the Department of Classics at the University of Washington. We offer an internationally respected graduate program and one of the most successful undergraduate programs in the country. In addition to classes on ancient Greek and Latin language and literature at all levels we provide numerous Classics courses, requiring no knowledge of foreign languages, which allow students throughout the University to explore the rich diversity of Greek and Roman culture. Our curriculum reflects both innovative and more traditional approaches to the textual, material, and social dimensions of antiquity and their reception. The educational experience of our students--graduate and undergraduate--is further enhanced by our Greenfield scholarship programs, by a network of collaborative relationships across campus and throughout the profession, and by our annual, quarter-long program in the Palazzo Pio in the heart of Rome.
