Central Christchurch Urban design

Many of our cities and peri–urban areas are growing at extraordinary rates. This is putting extreme pressure on land, water and infrastructure such as stormwater, energy and transport systems.

Low impact design and development strategies include: minimising the land under impervious surfaces (to reduce stormwater runoff); stormwater detention and treatment technologies such as raingardens and detention wetland ponds; increased native plantings especially along waterways; solar energy and passive thermal heating / cooling; and community aspirations.

Services can be applied from the building scale through to housing developments and whole catchments.
