Wildlife Pathology Unit
DEC's Wildlife Pathology Unit has a key role in DEC's management of wildlife in New York State. This unit is responsible for diagnosing, monitoring, and (when needed) controlling causes of sickness and death in New York State's amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.
Animal Diseases
Many different types of diseases can affect the wildlife in New York State. Two wildlife diseases that DEC continues to monitor are Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) and the Avian (Bird) Flu.
