In July 2001, the Florida Natural Areas Inventory became affiliated with Florida State University through the Florida Resources and Environmental Analysis Center, one of the original centers within the Institute of Science and Public Affairs. The Inventory is a member of NatureServe, an international network of natural heritage programs. The Inventory was founded in 1981 by The Nature Conservancy, and we continue to collaborate with the nation's largest conservation organization. The Inventory's primary contract is through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of State Lands. We play an integral role in assessing projects and setting acquisition priorities for Florida Forever, the state's environmental land acquisition program. The Florida Natural Areas Inventory also works closely with the following agencies, with relationships involving data exchange, field surveys, and special projects: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services Florida Department of Transportation Northwest Florida Water Management District St. Johns River Water Management District Suwannee River Water Management District |
